Cheap Carpet In Hamilton
Having carpet installed doesn’t get any
easier than this.
You’re shopping for new flooring on a budget and have discovered that carpet is one of the most inexpensive options for your floor. And while having new carpet installed is still an expense, there are some ways to keep the cost down while still finding cheap carpet that suits your particular needs.
Shopping for cheap carpet does not mean that your new carpet has to look cheap. Making careful choices about things like fibers, styles, ends of rolls and underpad are some of the options to consider before making a purchase. Choosing wisely in these areas will help keep your purchase cost efficient while making sure that your carpet is long lasting and stylish.

Nylon is a very popular carpet fiber choice due to its durability and resilience. Nylon, however, is the most expensive synthetic fiber on the market. A less expensive option is polyester – it’s been around for a long time as a carpet fiber and due to material innovations over the last few years has become more durable than ever. It’s naturally stain resistant and is available in a wide variety of styles and colours.
Polypropylene is another cheap carpet option. In it’s looped form, such as a berber, it’s a relatively hard wearing carpet and will stand up to a considerable amount of foot traffic.
Berber carpets come in with a reasonable price tag due to their fiber content (as mentioned above) and due to their manufacturing process. Since all carpets start out as a loop, berber carpet has the advantage of skipping the shearing step of production making it less costly to produce.
Frieze, or shag carpet, is another well wearing and cost effective carpet option. This style features a high twist which increases the strength of the fiber – the fibers generally lean to the side meaning that much of the foot traffic occurs at the side which limits crushing from above.
To help with any budget constraints, avoid purchasing cut and loop styles in a nylon. Like we mentioned above, the higher production costs and the more expensive fiber does not make these styles overly cost effective.
WORKING TO SAVE YOU MONEY
Carpet is generally produced in large rolls that come 6′, 12′ and 15′ wide and is sold in long lengths. This means that, at some point, smaller amounts are left on the roll – at this point, some retailers will sell of the remnants or roll ends at a discounted price to clear them out.
Due to the limited quantities, ends of rolls are usually best suited for smaller or oddly shaped areas. If consistency throughout the house is not a huge concern for you, you can likely re-carpet your entire area in roll ends.
Underpad is extremely important to the performance of your carpet. If the carpet you’ve chosen is a lower quality, a high quality underpad will help it perform better. As a rule, it’s suggested that you purchase the most durable pad available from your retailer. Per square foot, underpad is much less expensive than carpet – you can look to offset the additional cost of the underpad by choosing a less expensive carpet.
